corner of the home page to see the full list of new products, limited time
special offers AND SALE items. See below (or my web site) for testimonials

Boutique is an International Internet Store and we welcome customers from

London. See below for some of our product testimonials. For more
testimonials please refer to the web site.
TESTIMONIAL:
"Thank you Mia for making the Ultimate Butter soap. This is a wonderful
product! My hair has never felt so good in the two and 1/2 years since I
have had Sisterlocks. I am done with shampoo forever!" -- Sandee D.
(Dublin, CA)
"Ms. Mia, I was a first time customer this month. I received my order and
was very blessed with the quality of your HOS-PV Ultra Hydrating
Conditioning Treatment and the Locs Coils Waves & Curls Moisture Rich
Styling Souffle. Thank you for the love you have for yourself and others."
-- Tonya M. (Vacaville, CA)
"Mia is a true genius; a true God-send. I enjoy using her products and
supporting her business. The "All Over Body Deodorant" is sensational. I
live in Florida where the weather is always hot and humid. The body
deodorant is perfect. I enjoy the "fresh scent" and fresh feel of it.
It's wonderful at keeping the body feeling and smelling good. The Moisture
Therapy Shea Butter & Cocoa Butter Skin & Hair Creme is the only product
that works on my dry skin. I've tried several "name-brands" and none of
them kept the ash away. Mia's creme feels good on
my skin and it is the only thing I will use from now on. Thank you Mia and
God bless you and your business." Felicia H. (St. Petersburg, FL)
"The Aloe Vera Herbal Leave-In Treatment is my favorite. I have twists in my
hair and my scalp is dry but not after using that and it's not greasy at
all, so I can use it everyday. I can also use the Dandruff and Itchy Scalp
Treatment after my workout class, just a little spritz refreshes my hair
without drying it out. I can't wait to use the Styling Souffle." -- Kenya
D. (New York)
"I loved the Locs Coils Waves & Curls Moisture Rich Styling Souffle. I've
tried many other products (and believe me I've tried them all since my mom
is a hairdresser and has access to many free products), but others left my
hair frizzy. Your product kept great...without frizzyness
and even when I wore no hat or umbrella and it was raining outside." Sue S.
(Marlborough, CT)
Have a wonderful day!

sorry. the email address had me curious, that's all. it is always good to
accidently run into someone from your home town. this world is a lot
smaller than we think. I currently reside in Maryland, just outside of the
nation's capital...I've been to Atlanta on vacation once. I hope we are
able to do that again soon...

Peace,

What's your screen name? - Savvysophist
City/State? - Baltimore, MD
Loose, loced, or transitioning? - Loose!!! [INLINE] and loving my TWA!!!
How long has your hair been like it is? - Three months
How long is your hair? - three inches
What are your 3 favorite products? - black soap, shea butter, Mango Lime Locs and Twists moisturizer
What are your 3 favorite styles? - comb coils, nubian knots, shake and go! [INLINE]
Do you style your hair at home, or go to a salon? - style at home until I find a stylist I trust
If you go to a salon, which one? -
What is/has been your toughest hair struggle, physical or mental? - My biggest mental struggle has been seeing myself without much hair. When I went natural in April, I was left with 1/8 of an inch of hair. It was SUPER short! And I've been loving the evolution of my idea about my hair. I never kept it natural long enough before to really experience just how soft and "cottony" my hair is! Short or not, it feels great!! Some days I want for longer hair, but I'm being pretty strong! No texturizers or weaves for the kid! :)
Are you natural for life? Why or why not? - I AM NOW NATURAL FOR LIFE!!! This isn't the first time I've attempted to go natural. I first tried in 1998. I started texturizing my hair after that until this past April when I dedicated myself to becoming natural FOR REAL because I really missed, and wanted to get to know my natural hair. Now, I'm prepared for my hair, and I love it. It's something to think about, really: the need to become accustomed to being oneself. But it is a lovely feeling being natural. I can't see myself not being natural now.

Hi everybody :)
What's your screen name? - Shaun
City/State? - Alabama
Loose, loced, or transitioning? - Hmmm... Well I started out loose
around 2000, chopped once or twice, and recently tried locs for about
8 months. I combed them out just last month (took me about 2 weeks) so
I'm back to loose.
How long has your hair been like it is? - See above.
How long is your hair? - I haven't really measured, and it isn't
exactly even, since I'm afraid to let a barber touch it, and I suck at
cutting my own hair. Probably as short as 4 inches in some places, and
as long as 7 in others.
What are your 3 favorite products? - I'll need a month or 2 more to
refresh my memory. Locs were almost a product-free hair choice.
What are your 3 favorite styles? - Twists, and just tying a scarf or
something around my head to make a semi-neat puff. With locs, the best
thing was that if you didn't want to make a "style", you didn't have to.
Do you style your hair at home, or go to a salon? - Usually at home.
When I had locs I let a girl re-twist them for me because when I did
it, it took like 5 hours, and *still* didn't look as good as when she
did it.
If you go to a salon, which one? - Ain't no Natural salons here,
unless I want to drive to Atlanta. Just girls who do hair at their
house. ;)
What is/has been your toughest hair struggle, physical or mental? -
Giving up on the possibility of having long, free-flowing, silky hair.
Seeing sisters who are beautiful without it feeds my spirit.
Are you natural for life? Why or why not? - Definitely! Some people's
hair seems to do fine with perms. Mine was always thin, and I was
forever trying to give it some life or make it curl up. It's just the
dumbest thing every time I think about it... Straightening your hair
only to turn around and try to make it hold a curl. I am never going
back to hair that's "see through" because of breakage and split ends.
Once my hair started coming in natural and I got a good look at some
of the unmolested strands--thick, smooth, coal black, and with actual
tensile strength--I knew I couldn't go back to letting people strip
those natural layers of protection off of it, then complain because it
wasn't healthy.

Hello Everyone:

I am going on vacation to Mexico in a couple of weeks. This will be my first vacation with my loose natural hair. I am thinking about getting it braided (cornrows) with extensions so I won't have to worry about styling. Any other suggestions to how I miminize damage from Chlorine and Salt water while I am on vacation?

Thanks

natural hair care questions

2007-06-28 05:28:04

Hello All
My name is Val.
located in NY
locing for two years
I go to two salons in harlem (one expensive, the other not so expensive with less amenities :-)
I started locing in January 2003 with twist extensions. My hair has loced. However, I am having a problem ( Ithink) because the ends of my locs (where the extension is interwined with my own hair) is bulky and overall my locs feel heavy (especially on the ends).
I am having the following challenges with loc maintenance and styling
#1-I am able to wear ponytails but I can't (I think) wear the updos wiht bun, flat twists etc. becaue the ends of my locs are so bulky. Any style suggestions
#2- I work out about 3 times a week and thus sweat alot which seems to make my hair very dry and hard. What can I do to maintain moisture and softness?
#3- I am greying early (thanks to family genetics). Any thoughts on natural and or safe coloring methods?
#4- I would like to take swimming lessons but I have not found a swimming cap to fit my locs. where can I find an appropriate swimming cap? Will chlorine from pool damage hair/locs?
#5Any thoughts on where to get decorative pony tail holders strong enough to hold locs?
thank you for any feedback on the above
Val.

[Naturally_You] suggestions...

2007-06-27 18:48:23

Kimberly,
I had cut my "down to back" relaxed hair to a bob and decided to transition. It
wasn't enough for a pony tail so I winged it most of the time but using a good
flat itron. When that got tired, I got a straw set. I wanted to see if I like
the afro/curly look. I then went to kinky twists for 3 weeks. I then did the big
chop. So from Nov 2003 to March 2004 I transitioned and cut off the rest of my
perm. So it just depends on how you want to grow your hair out or if you wnat
to start all over. I loved my TWA and my hair has grown so much.
I owe alot to the ladies on this message board for their support and advice!!

I use the ORS hair mayo and it really makes a difference in my hair. I use it
when I shampoo which it may be every 2-3 weeks. It gives my hair shine and extra
softness. I then use CD Hair milk and I have found the answer to the dryness in
the middle of my crown.

Hotep Everyone!
I'm Conchus, currently residing in Suitland, MD. I've been locing
now
for the past 5 years and my length is about halfway down my back. My
favorite products are Loc It Up by Talihah Waajid, Jamaican Mango &
Lime, Locing Gel, and Organic Root Stimulator. My favorite styles
are
cornrows, crimped, and various pin-ups. I currently run a home-based
business called Life's Locs, and have always maintenance my own locs.
The struggles I have/had, have been both mental and physical. This
is
my second go round w/ locs. I've been locing since late '97. In the
beginning I went through the normal phases of confusion w/ locing. I
dealt with the stress of transitioning into locs and trying to stay
so
called "professional." I went back and forth in my first year of
transitioning. I didn't understand that the biggest trial to
obtaining locs is to have "patience." After a 1 1/2 years of locing
I
cut them out. I went back to wearing a short afro for a 1 before
deciding to loc again. Well, it's 5 years later and I'm in it to win
it....and never looking back.

I am new to this email group and I've noticed in a couple of the emails I have received that people know their type of hair, as in your case (type 4a/4b). Is that determined by a professional natural hair care stylist? I would love to know the type of my hair. Thanks for the new link. I have about eight weeks of new growth, so I am at the very beginning stages of growing out my hair...PRAY FOR ME!!!! My hair is almost to my shoulders and I am reluctant to get such a drastic cut. It is also breaking a lot, so any info/advice you can send my way will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks again and have a blessed weekend!!

Re: Another question...

2007-06-26 17:11:00

it's not necessarily less labor intensive initially, but this idea
gives you two styles in one: i sometimes braid my locs and wear it as
a style for a week or two. i make the braids very small - 3 locs each.
after that time i'll remove the locs and then wear the textured look
for awhile.

Hair can be loced at any length over about an inch.

Thanks for the advice...I guess I am just going to have to deal with it until I am out of the transitioning phase...I can't wait, but I have no choice...as they say patience is a virtue....any recommended products, particularly conditioners...

Hi Kimberly,

Finding something to do with your hair while it's growing out can be tough! Try getting your hair flat twisted (the double flat twist). There is a really good web site I came across while transitioning called www.motowngirl.com. It is full of lots of information about transitioning styles, treatments and caring for your hair after you've cut off the relaxer.

One tip I would give you for after you go completely natural is that products made for curly or chemically curled hair tend to work on our natural hair. At least it works for me and I have 4a 4b type hair. GOOD LUCK.

I don't believe that it's a lie that mayonnaise works as a deep conditioner.
Where did ORS get the idea to come up with their hair mayonnaise as well as all
the others on the market? Also, what do you think people used back in the day
before there were stores that had products with artificial ingredients packed on
their shelves?
I can say from before AND after my natural journey, the original hair mayonnaise
DOES make an improvement with my hair! It's a great protein conditioner!

suggestions...

2007-06-25 04:27:37

hey kim,
i don't go to salons, as a college student i really can't afford all that, but for suggestions, maybe...
* a straw set, it should hold for a couple weeks
* extensions (braids or twists) are always a favorite, and they'll keep your hair out of the way for a while
* cornrolls are ok, if you don't mind the style
* headwraps are an option as well, if you're just lazy like me [INLINE]

as for the breakage...it will come, i experienced it about 8 months into my transitioning, the point where relaxed meets natural is very brittle and with time, will eventually break...

to minimize the inevitable, try to condition a bit more and deep condition if you don't already, leave-ins are good, don't comb/brush as often, wear some of the protective styles listed above..

other than that good luck [INLINE]

I have a friend who two-strand twists them at night...her locs are small so it may depend on the size and texture of your hair for this technique to work effectively...
or maybe you could do plaits (using the three strand method) instead of cornrowing....

Re: [Naturally_You] Story: Birth-Control Patch May Pose Health Risk

2007-06-20 00:50:13

i don't know if i agree because the ortho evra patch
is just like the pill but only in another form.if that
was the case, then they would have not put it in or
they would have taken it off the market. i have tried
the patch but was allergic to it. so it's not for
everyone.

Another question...

2007-06-19 22:20:05

You all were so helpful with my last question, I thought I'd try this
one out. I am a big fan of the braid out, when I braid my locs and
then take em out for the crinkly look. I normally do this look when
I'm between appointments, I was wondering if anyone knew of an easier
way to get the look without the labor intensive process of actually
conrowing the locs....
Thanks again

Re: QUESTION?

2007-06-18 14:36:26

Throughout my locing journey(4 years), I have gone from twisting/palm
rolling, to latching, to freeforming, and back to twisting/palm
rolling. It can be done, but there are a couple of concerns with it:
1) When you are freeforming, you are allowing your new growth to loc
up at its own pace. Because I did this for awhile, I now have an inch
or more of unloced hair at the root of some of my locs. Now that I am
(somewhat) back to cultivating, when I wash, this entire part(or most
of it) unravels. When I was frequently retwisting, I didn't have as
much unravelling.
2) My locs are lumpy, bumpy, or chewy. They are not perfectly
cylindrical, because of the different methods I have used along the
way. If you want perfectly cylindrical locs, proceed with caution.
3) Though I like the thickness and fullness of my locs when they
haven't been twisted for awhile(by awhile, I mean months), I am not
that fond of how difficult it becomes to get it all in a ponytail,
etc. This really has nothing to do with switching between the methods,
but it's something to think about when you're used to the "thinned
out" feel of cultivated locs.
Hope this helps,
KC

Re: Subject: Questions

Phea,
You can loc your hair at any length.
You can order NY! on line. The NaturallyYouMagazine website has a list of
stores that carries the mag. You can check the site to see if there is
store a near you.

QUESTION?

2007-06-18 03:01:52

Hello fellow Loc Wearers:

I'm just curious to know if one wears "maintained" or "cultivated" locs for a while (years, months, plus years on) and then decide to "free form" (say to add volume, thinkness/fullness), could it be possilbe to go back to "maintaing or cultivating" the same locs afterwards?
Thanks,

Nia~

You can purchase the magazine at Black Images in Wynnewood if you do not order on line. I am not sure how many copies they have (I ordered online); but I have seen the magazine there.

Birth-Control Patch May Pose Health Risk

Questions

2007-06-17 03:55:50

Hello everyone.
I was in the huge city of Palacious, Tx. (outside of Houston) for a
family reunion this past weekend (I live in Dallas) and I met a 50
somethin' cousin from California who is fabulously sporting her
colored locs. She is WORKIN' them. After an extensive chat with her,
I want to loc my hair. However, I want to let it grow out (currently
less than 2 inches long)some more because I really want to try some of
the fabulous styles I've seen online. Okay, so my question is: Is it
easier to start the loc process while your hair is short? Or Can I
still loc after it has grown out longer?
Next question: Can you purchase the Naturally You magazine at stores
or is it online purchase only?
Thanks.

Hi Diane
When I saw that term, I thought it was too funny! Well, if you are a
fan of Lord of the Rings, there is a character named Gollum. He has 2
or 3 strands of hair on his head. As you know there are many sistas
who are walking around like that b/c of the fire cream (perm). This
is where the term "gollum fire cream". Someone correct me if i am
wrong.

What's your screen name? larandab11 or jazzy1too (NP)
City/State? Dallas, Tx.
Loose, loced, or transitioning? loose
How long has your hair been like it is? 10 mo. total (last relaxer

How long is your hair? 5 inches
What are your 3 favorite products? Shea Butter, ORS Hair Mayo, & ORS

What are your 3 favorite styles? twist-out, & afro
Do you style your hair at home, or go to a salon? home
If you go to a salon, which one? not aware of one in area (let me
know if you all do)
What is/has been your toughest hair struggle, physical or mental?
My toughest struggle has been physical, Of course I have good days
and bad days understanding my hair type, curl pattern, and battling
shrinkage...but that is minut compared to the looks and stares I get
from people at my church...I went from having "past the shoulder
hair to about 2 inches of natural hair. I also have to struggle with
my husband a bit, but he's mine until death do us part - -so pray
that he doesn't kill me throughout my hair journey. ;-) My mental
struggle is trying to stop thinking about my hair long enough to do
my job (household and otherwise)
Are you natural for life? Why or why not?
Yes. Getting ready to lock...not sure if I want to go with
Sisterlocks, Bradelocs, Isislocs, or self locs. I'm just
ready...ready to stop spending hours in the salon, ready for my hair
to grow to it's maximum potential, and ready to do things the way
God intended. (I feel like everything we need was provided here in
earth.)

I actually live in Laurelton, which is not too far from Cambria at
all. Funny enough, I am in ATL today on business but I'm trying to
get out as soon as possible today b/c you guys having been having

moisturizer). It's really great for a mid-week no-poo wash. It leave
my hair soft and light. I'm also trying to get my hair to grow more,
but I think I just have to be more patient.

Re: [Naturally_You] Who am I?

2007-06-15 08:22:34

Hello Camille,
My name is Sharon, I used to live in Cambria Heights, where do you live? I am
now living in Atlanta. How do you like the Neutrogena Hair moisterizer? I have
shoulder length curly hair, really thick in the middle. I see that I am once
again having hair growth. But I would like to have more. I think I may start
going to a salon for two strand twists. My twists only last about 3 days, then
it looks like I have puffs at the roots and alot of frizz.
I can do them myself, but I may want to treat myself from time to time.
Any suggestions??
Sharon

[Naturally_You] My Dry Crown

2007-06-15 07:39:01

I must say that I agree. When I had a TWA, Suave, Alberta VO5, Soft and
beautiful, etc worked really well with my hair. But a year and half later and
lots of growth, I have to buy products that cost more. Aveda Brilliant shampoo
works really well. My hair and scalp feel so clean after I wash. I still use the
Alberta VO5 conditioner and I also like ORS hair mayo. The ORS carrot oil didn't
do much. I love Carol's daughter Hair milk and Mimosa hair honey.
I am experiencing alot of scalp itching, but it started once I started using
Carol's Daughter products. No flakes, just itching. When my hair was permed I
had one spot in the middle of my head that would always itch. It stopped once I
stopped perming, but its back now. That's wear my hair is the driest.
For those who have wavier hair textures and that wear two strand twists, how do
you get them to stay? I was told that using a twist and lock gel in addition to
setting lotion and sitting under a drier will do? Plus using flat clips at each
twist helps.
Any advice?
Sharon

My toughest hair struggle has been when I get really stressed that my hair begins to thin and fall out. I went through this about 3 years into being loc'd. I was going through a lot of family and work stress and my hair showed it. I had to adopt a less stress attitude towards things where I find positive ways to deal with the stress that I encounter.

Im natural for life because I love the strength, the look, the versatility, and the beauty that is my hair. This is the hair that I truly feel that fits me best.

Interesting article

2007-06-14 01:02:04

Good Aftrennon Erveryone,
I rec'd this article and wanted to share it with you all and get some
of your thoughts.
Also- Is anyone from or know of someone in who lives Cleveland, Ohio
who specilaizes in natural haircare? I am moving there is six weeks.
Written by Columnist Debbie Norrell
At least two months ago WPXI contacted me to do an interview about
ingredients in hair care products used by African-Americans possibly
leading to breast cancer. I was selected because I am a 15-year
breast cancer survivor.
I agreed to do the interview. However at the end of the taping I
didn't know anything more about the study than before the cameras
started rolling.
Recently WAMO news anchor and New Pittsburgh Courier freelance writer
Allegra Battle did a story on this same subject and it was a feature
on the May 9, 5 p.m. KDKA news. But at the end of these stories we
still did not have a list of the products.
Battle gave me the list that didn't make her feature during a recent
visit I made to the WAMO studio's promoting the Pittsburgh Race for
the Cure. So many of my friends have seen the stories on television
or read about this issue in the paper and t! hey want to know which
products to be concerned about.
However I wanted to give you more so I went to the Internet and
looked for articles from the Center for Environmental Oncology and
found one titled: Why Healthy People Get Cancer: Center Examines
Environmental Suspects (update spring 2005).
The article stated, one of immediate research priorities of the new
center is the puzzling phenomenon of breast cancer in African-
Americans under the age of 40, who have nearly twice as much breast
cancer as do white women.
The center will work with Silent Spring Institute, a Massachusetts
based cancer institute, to identify suspect contaminants and
ingredients in hair care products and other personal products
regularly used by African-American young women and their mothers.
More recently, attention has turned to estrogenic compounds in hair
care products used by Black women as a possible explanation for
higher cancer rates in this population.
I've started t! o carry copies of the list in my purse but we're
going to share it with yo u right here. The list simply says: The
following is a list of products that have previously been found to
contain hormones:
Placenta Shampoo, Queen Helene Placenta cream hair conditioner,
Placenta revitalizing shampoo, Perm Repair with placenta, Proline
Perm Repair with placenta, Hormone hair food Jajoba oil, Triple
action super grow, Supreme Vita-Gro, Luster's Sur Glo Hormone, B & B
Super Gro, Lekair natural Super Glo, Lekair Hormone hair treatment
with Vitamin E, Isoplus Hormone hair treatment wit Quinine, Fermodyl
with Placenta hair conditioner, Supreme Vita-Gro with allantoin and
estrogen plus TEA-COCO, Hask Placenta Hair conditioner, Nu Skin body
smoother and Nu Skin Enhancer.
The majority of these products contain placental extract, placenta,
hormones or estrogen. As early as 1983 Dr. Devra Davis
(epidemiologist and direc! tor of the Center for Environmental
oncology, part of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute) and
co-researcher Leon Bradlow advanced the theory that xenoestrogens,
synthetic estrogen imitators, were a possible cause of breast cancer.
Davis also says, "most cases of breast cancer are not born, but made
and the more hormones a woman is exposed to in her lifetime, the
greater her risk of breast cancer."
We need to be more cautious of the products that we use on our hair
and our bodies and demand that more information about our health is
shared. Ladies and gentlemen beware.

RE: [Naturally_You] L'Oreal Technique Nature's Therapy Products

2007-06-13 15:14:42

I tried the shampoo, which to me was too drying. The conditioner was okay. But the daily spray is okay. The only thing is I find I have to wash my hair more with it. Sometimes I wash my hair every 7 days, but with this, I would say on the 4th or 5th day you'd need to wash it.

Have you tried Pantene Hydrating Curls conditioner as a no-poo shampoo? It's really good. Also the Daily Defense "Tender Apple Conditioner for damaged and color treated hair. This is really good too. Along with the Aussie Moist Conditioner. They all make your hair really soft. Let me know what you think if you decide to try them. By the way I have regular, kinky hair; I think it s 4a/4b.

Re: [Naturally_You] Listerine as Hair Loss Remedy????

2007-06-11 23:28:26

Hi Nisa,
This is Diane and I can truly empathize and feel your pain. Please don't give up
so easily and shave your hair off! It is gonna take some time for you to
experience growth, just try and persevere. I have also had damage at my temples
due to a bad perm and to top it off, I threw in braids to allow it to hopefully
grow back - what a mistake - with all the pulling and tugging to braid it didn't
help one bit. I actually thought that the hair would NEVER grow back in that
area because it's been over a decade since the perm fall-out. Thankfully it's
growing back in due to a combination of exercise, massaging the temple area and
taking hair vitamins (I provided a link for you below). I have read T'keyah
Keymah's book and she says a good idea would be to do a Head Trip. She calls it
the ultimate scalp invigoration and it requires doing a headstand or dangling
your head slightly over the edge of your bed for a full five minutes so that
your blood will flow to your scalp. I don't know the length of time it would
take to be effective though. If you do try the listerine, what have you got to
lose? Just let me know if it works.

What's your screen name?
GEEDAV01
City/State?
East Norriton, PA
Loose, loced, or transitioning?
Loose and Loving It
How long has your hair been like it is?
I've been natural almost 6 years
How long is your hair?
I'd say shoulder length
What are your 3 favorite products?
Well, I'm still venturing but I use 100% Cold Pressed Extra Virgin
Olive oil along with other essential oils (i.e. organic tea tree
oil, lavendar, and reosmary), aloe vera juice and gel, a good ol'
avocado with egg (for deep conditioning), and Avalon Organic
Botanical's Nourising Shampoo.
What are your 3 favorite styles?
(1) Big Afro
(2) 2 Strand Twists
(3) Wash and Go
Do you style your hair at home, or go to a salon?
Mostly, I style at home or have my sister-in-law twist it for me,
but I do go to a the salon every 4 months as a treat and as a
refresher.
If you go to a salon, which one?
Duafe Holistic Hair Care - Stylist-Amber. They're located at:
2947 West Girard Avenue Philadelphia, PA 19130
215-232-6850
What is/has been your toughest hair struggle, physical or mental?
My first struggle is me... not having the time to put in to my hair
so that it can be a s healthy and strong as possible. the second is
that when I do get 2 strand twists or whatever, it only lasts me a
couple of days no matter what I do (professionally done, at home,
scarves at night, etc.). It can sometimes be a little discouraging
in the sense of getting my hair done and not wearing a fro all the
time.
Are you natural for life? Why or why not?
As they say, I'm ini t to win it!!!!! I'm in it for the long
haul...definitely for life!!! This is simply because I feel good
about the "ME" that God made.

NATURAL 5 years
Olive Oil, Organics Uplifting Shampoo and Organics
spray oil sheen (not exact name but close)
struggle, physical or mental. My struggle is
physical--my hair won't stay 2-strand twist once I lay
my head down...It turns froey leaving only a few
twists, which is disappointing...I won't give up
though.
Yes, I feel and look beautiful. Recently I had a
senior moment but I snapped back into reality....

Answer the following questions about you:
What's your screen name?
City/State? Brooklyn, NY
Loose, loced, or transitioning? Loose
How long has your hair been like it is? 5 years, most of the time my hair was in braid extensions, I have only been wear it out since August of last year.
How long is your hair? shoulder length about 11"
What are your 3 favorite products? Carol's Daughter Hair Milk, still experimenting with others no other favs yet
What are your 3 favorite styles? Twist and twist out, that's all I can do.
Do you style your hair at home, or go to a salon? at home
If you go to a salon, which one?
What is/has been your toughest hair struggle, physical or mental? I'm lazy so having to my hair constantly is my biggest struggle hence I can wear twists one week and wear twist outs the next and not have to touch it as often; also since I am not good at styling, trying to do something different.
Are you natural for life? Why or why not? For life, chemicals did not work for me I spent a lot of money and time for a head full of damaged hair when I had a relaxer.

Listerine as Hair Loss Remedy????

2007-06-09 18:26:29

Hi all, has anyone ever heard of Listeirne's effectiveness as a hair
loss remedy? I have been battling with hair loss around my temples for
some time, and it has gotten to the point where I'm thinking about
shaving my entire head because of the loss around the temples on both
sides. I've been using ORS hair serum, Dr. Miracle Temple Balm, as well
as Doo Gro Medicated Thinning Hair Formula, (as well as rosemary and
peppermint oil, sporadically) for over a month, but so far haven't seen
any results. In fact, it's getting worse. I feel so traumatized by this
and just regret not taking better care of my hair in the past (stay
away from micro braids as a transitioning method!!!). Someone had
posted a long list of helpful steps they're using to nourish their hair
(prenatal vitamins, pregnancy tea, oils, etc), and I'll be starting
that regimen and hopefully this will help because I don't want to shave
my head only for the hair in the temple areas to not grow at all.
Anyway, someone told me they used original Listerine on their balding
and thinning spots and it worked. We have experts in this forum, so I
figured I'd get some advice first.

Hi Diane,

I did the simplest thing........I ignored my doctor. since i never was a fan of western medicine, i was very uncomfortable taking pills twice a day for any defeciency. What i did do was increase the iron based food that i ate. so instead of eating beans twice a month i ate them a couple times a week. i found various ways to cook my tofu and that in itself made me eat more of it. also green vegetables, raw if you could, or steamed or sauteed. the main thing is when you eat foods with a high iron count you MUST drink orange juice with it. no concentrated juice if you can help it. the vitamin C in OJ is what helps to absorb the iron into your bloodstream. cause to eat all that or take any iron pills without the OJ to help absorb it, defeats the purpose.
